Prashad is what the guru gives to devotees. It is food that the guru has blessed. At the end of every program or meeting with Sri Swamiji, everyone is asked to take and eat prashad.
Anna daan, the gift of food is tradition in India. Giving food to a needy person, feeding the hungry and devotees is seen as great service. Mass feedings are a regular activity of Sri Swamiji's ashrams. Every year on Swamiji's birthday (January 24), Mahashivratri day and His Tapas anniversary (August 7th), devotees and the poor are fed by ashrams globally. |
